This time of year most of us reminisce about years past. I’d like to share with you an experience of mine from New Year’s Eve 1999-2000.
This was the time of Y-2K and I was a very young Resident on call. Even though I was busy with emergencies, I wanted to bring some happiness to the families of the children I was seeing.
I decided to take photos (yes an actual in the hand photo) of each child and their family members who wanted to join in. I gave their parents their photo as a keep sake to show their family and their next generations of where they were at the turn of the century.
By unexpected chance I saw one of those families a little while ago. We were happy to see each other after all this time later. That child, who is now an adult, told me they still have their “turn of the century” photo.
That photo they said means so much to them and they take it out every New Years Eve and tell the story of where they were that night, and how this photo will always mean so much to their family.
This was very humbling for me to hear. I am honored to have made such a positive impact in this family’s life, and I hope in your family’s also.
